MBA Programs: Which One to Choose From?

One of the world’s most popular post-graduate degree programs, MBA is often regarded as the path to successful management career. An MBA Program generally consists of a core curriculum of obligatory subjects, few elective subjects, and either a dissertation or a project. With such a diversified choice, it becomes very difficult to know which program is the best for you.

Here are few of the factors that students must consider before enrolling for an MBA Program.

1) Your expectations from the program: Although, all MBA Course teach the same basics, no two programs are the same. They don’t offer the same syllabus. So you need to ask yourself:

  • Does the particular program syllabus include all the topics that are relevant to my chosen career?
  • Which electives does a particular MBA program offers and am I interested to study them?
  • Is there any practical training or real life experience included in the program?
  • Does this MBA program give me the experience I am looking for?

2) Your circumstances: Another important factor to consider while enrolling for an MBA Program is that if a particular program suits your present conditions. For instance, whether you want to join a full-time two year course or want to go for a shortened course. Other factors to consider are:

  • Is the Institute/College located in your area or will you need to travel daily?
  • Do the course timings suit you?
  • Do you have time to join the course on its starting date?

3) Financial consideration: MBA is an expensive program. Thus you need to check if you can afford the expenses of the program? Don’t just consider the program fee, there are other expenses too that you need to take care of. For instance; living expenses (if you are going to relocate), travel costs, and other expenses involved in the particular program. If you need to borrow the loan, make sure that you will be able to bear the interest on the loan and how long will it be before you can repay it.

4) What impact will it have on your schedule? If you are opting for a part-time MBA along with your present job, ask yourself if you will be able to balance, the work and study? or you have to quit your job? Will the course help you achieve a better designation or package?

Most of the candidates want to enroll for an MBA program offered by the top MBA Institutes with highest ranking, but it is very important to consider the pros and cons of the program before you enroll for it. If you enroll for an MBA program just because it is best available option, but are unable to complete it, then even the best program will do no good to you. So, once you are clear with the above queries, you can choose from the MBA programs that suit you the best and can make most out of it.
